LED Multispectral Sensor in Soil Space Metrology

Written by

Abstract: The paper proposes the development of a digital multispectral SpeCtroscoPe (SCP) sensor that can be applied to the recognition of various surfaces outcropping on a hypothetical Martian and lunar surface. The idea is to develop a multispectral LED sensor capable of performing spectrophotometric measurements. Using dedicated MLP machine learning software trained in the laboratory with datasets created with planetary simulants, these measurements allow for the recognition and subsequent classification of planetary soils. This approach allows for the determination of the grain size, color, and mineralogical composition of the planetary sample being analyzed.
